People who "Do" taxes for you often don't look hard enough for the legitimate deductions that you can get. They charge a flat fee and just want to get you done and out of the office with your check in hand.

If you know enough about these deductions you can tell them and they will have to respond.
So, to look good in your eyes now they start to actually do what they are paid for - save you money with legitimate deductions.

The standard deduction for 2010 is $11,400 for married couples filing a joint return, and qualifying widows and widowers. $5,700 for singles and married individuals filing separate returns. $8,400 for heads of household.
